The National Anti-Corruption Department prosecutors are investigating Gigi Becali, president of the New Generation Party, for bribing in the exchange of land property he had with the Ministry of National Defense in 1999.
Investigations are grounded on several documents pointing to a donation of 100 million ROL, which Becali fueled to the Ministry at the time they were negotiating on the property exchange. The money was to be used to build a statue dedicated to Romanian aviators, which did not happen. When investigations opened, the Ministry sent Becali back his money, claiming the statue could not be built for reasons not related to the Ministry. (...) (G.T.)
