Szasz Jeno, a president of the UCM (Civic Magyar Union in Romania), Szilagyi Zsolt, a coordinator of the campaign of bishop Laszlo Tokes, and Toro T. Tibor, a deputy representing the UDMR (Democrat Union of Magyars in Romania), met with Romanian President Traian Basescu last Friday in Odorheiu Secuiesc.
They took this opportunity to inform the President of Romanian about the Magyar community's claims: autonomy for the county of the Secui (Magyar-origin community in Transylvania), the teaching of Romanian and the schools. The UCM representative pleaded for territorial autonomy also for the other natural historical regions in Romania, claiming this was the only means to achieve "true decentralization, based on the subsidiarity principle."
Szasz Jeno, a mayor of Odorheiu Secuiesc and also a president of the UCM, asked President Basescu to see that state institutions were objective, allowed for the making of the Civic Magyar Party and didn't obstruct this plan politically. (C.A.)
