Constantin Ticu Dumitrescu, a famous fighter of communism in Romania, wrote official letter to the Parliament of Romania and Romanian Presidency, explaining his decision to take the Romanian PM's offer and become head of CNSAS (the National Council for Research on the Communist Secret Service Archive).
Ticu Dumitrescu said the offer was an honor to him, as both the Coalition in power and the Social-Democrats in the opposition agreed to the PM's proposal. He also mentioned support from the Association of Former Political Detainees (which he heads), whose members were the last survivors of the fight against communism.
Ticu Dumitrescu explained he agreed to take responsibility in order to reform CNSAS and turn it into a transparent institution of public interest, finally able to contribute to the too long postponed reform of the Romanian political class. But he also outlined one single person could not achieve it, as there was need of a team with clean members, keen on ideas such as legitimacy and truth. (...)
In the end of the author appealed to politicians and presidency, demanding them to do responsible thinking when choosing the new members of CNSAS and provide support for true reform. (...) (D.I.)
