Today there are 16 years since the heroes of Timisoara started street protests against the Communist regime. In the evening of December 16, 1989, hundreds of inhabitants of Timisoara got together in Maria Square crying out against Ceausescu and the communists. Protests continued all night long. The communists at rule wouldn't talk to protesters and ordered repression. Militia forces started aggressive action and had their first victims. Lots of people were taken to Militia cells. People were injured and died in the streets of Timisoara, the city was isolated and access there was denied. But the communists' measures against the Romanians crying for freedom were inefficient. December 16, 1989 was the approaching end of the communist regime and Ceausescu's clan. (...) (O.B.)
