Romanian President Traian Basescu had a meeting with Mark Taplin, new US Charge D'Affairs to Bucharest. President Basescu reiterated Romania's support to the fight of terrorism, especially against the background of recent attacks in London: "USA can count on Romania's contribution to international efforts to fight terrorism. Our country will obey assignments on Iraq and Afghanistan as long as necessary." The Romanian official outlined that the EU accession was a priority to Romania, just like the strategic partnership with USA, "a crucial reference in Romania's foreign affairs policy." Traian Basescu expressed Romania's will to reinforce cooperation with US on the Black Sea issue, as well as on developing a Romanian strategy on the region. He also emphasized that as future EU member Romania would continue contribution to Trans-Atlantic dialogue. (A.H.)
