"Aviatorul" a dezamagit, ratand cinci dintre cele mai importante sase Oscaruri. Astfel, filmul a obtinut doar premiul pentru cea mai buna actrita in rol secundar, prin Cate Blanchett. Pe langa acesta, "Aviatorul" a mai obtinut premii si pentru imagine, montaj, regie artistica si costume.

"Aviatorul" prezinta viata lui Howard Hughes - unul din cei mai influenti americani din perioada istorica, industrias, aviator, constructor si producator la Hollywood. In privinta premiului pentru cel mai bun actor, acesta a mers, dupa cum era de asteptat, la Jamie Foxx, pentru interpretarea exceptionala din "Ray" - in care joaca rolul lui Ray Charles. "Ray" a mai obtinut si premiul pentru cel mai bun mixaj sunet.

Premiul pentru cel mai bun film de animatie a fost acordat "The Incredibles", "Spider-Man 2" obtinand premiul pentru cele mai bune efecte speciale.
