The President's men want to thus get monopoly on the whole production of paper for newspapers in Romania. In case of such transaction, newspapers will depend on the Democrats and the Romanian President and they will therefore be easy to blackmail. Two rounds of negotiations took place so far. The mayor of Bucharest offered 30 million Euro and persons close to Sechelariu say he also offered political protection.
The latter aspect may be highly important for the transaction, if we think about the ongoing criminal cases against Sechelariu, formerly a mayor of Bacau. He admits people in connections with the Democrats are interested in the factory, but he utters no name.
Videanu would like to grab the Letea Printing House too, where the publications in Moldova are printed. But the ex mayor of Bacau seems unwilling to sell it for the time being. (...) (L.K.,M.T.)
