Hungarian PM Ferenc Gyrcsany had a meeting with Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu in Budapest on Friday. The Hungarian official said he was disappointed with postponement to pass law on the rights of national minorities in Romania, says MTI.
Gyurcsany praised UDMR (the Democrat Union of Magyars in Romania) for the contribution to this law and opined that the National Liberal Party in Romania proved support for needs concerning this law. Gyurcsany opined that solutions to most problems with the relations between Romania and Hungary and to future difficulties should be reached within the EU.
The Romanian PM replied in his turn that Romanian laws on the protection of minorities already met high standards, just as the Parliament had invited minority groups to participate at the elaboration of the new law.
While in Alba Iulia on Saturday, president of the Romanian Chamber of deputies Bogdan Olteanu from the Liberal Party said his party would vote for the law on national minorities' status, but wanted the Coalition parties to keep the promise too. (O.B.)
